Phillip Garlick

Psychologist
State Lead for QLD

About Phillip

After growing up in country NSW, Phil served in the military as a soldier, worked in an adult male prison, and for the last 5 years in a Moggill private psychology practice. Phil has deep appreciation for the impact of stressful environments on people and their families, and the preciousness of life right here and now. Seeing and experiencing the capacity that people have to both flourish in these environments and to have great struggle has given Phil a curiosity about factors that influence psychological processes. He is interested in tweaking these processes to optimise our ability to take effective responsibility, and to improve our experience of life and the relationships that are central to our performance and wellbeing.

Phil seeks to engage clients in a process of personal discovery that is tailored to each individual. Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy he strives to strike a balance between the all important meaning making with the identification of practical solutions. Whether his client’s are being adversely affected by long periods of low mood, are experiencing anger or anxiety related to their past experiences or they are working on performance enhancement, Phil takes a strength based approach that values the client’s experience. While he enjoys the calm and quiet of the consulting room he also knows that the best work can be done in the outdoors or on foot, so don’t hesitate to ask if you would like a session outdoors.
